A lot of people are pivoting careers and oftentimes you hear or well, read people say, “your skills are transferrable”. Reading or hearing that is good and all, but what does it really mean?

As a former educator, I have witnessed that my skills are, in fact transferrable. But it wasn’t until I “saw the light” that I realized just how transferrable they were. Now that I have made my EdExit. I understand that dealing with teenagers all day is a great skill for customer success. Managing my grade book and keeping track of parent calls, etc is a great skill for Salesforce. The list can literally go on and on.

Recently, I learned about something else that was transferrable, conceptual skills. In this amazing Product Design Bootcamp led by @Joe_Brendan_ (Twitter). I have witnessed that conceptual skills are also transferrable in the UX world. If you learn a program with fidelity, the concepts are easily transferrable to other programs. What led me to this Bootcamp was the deeper lessons on Figma and Webflow, coupled with HTML and CSS. I mean, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I can’t go wrong, right?

Joe Brendan taught Figma with fidelity, so well that every concept he taught in Figma is easily transferrable to HTML and CSS or Webflow for that matter. For example, when you want to change the color of an object, what do you need to do first? You need to select it. Well, in HTML, and Webflow, what do you need to do first to change the color of an object? That’s right, select it. See, something so simple for some, can be easily forgotten and cause problems for a design further down the line.

With that said, I am grateful for Joseph Brendan’s Product Design Bootcamp, it’s priceless. I have learned so much, but one of my main takeaways is that transferrable skills are everywhere.
